Indefinite article a/an
The article A is used before singular countable nouns which begin with consonant sound.
Examples:

The article AN is used before singular countable nouns which begin with vowel sound.
Examples:
An umbrella | |
An elephant | |
An ice cream | |

An honest person | |
He is an actor. | |
She didn't get an invitation. | |
I saw an eagle at the zoo. |
Uses of The Indefinite Article
A/AN means "one" or "a single". You cannot use A/AN with plural nouns. | I saw a bears (PLURAL) in Yellowstone National Park. Not Correct |
We use A/AN to talk about what characterizes a person or object such as profession or nationality. | My father is an architect for a famous company. |
He is an excellent teacher. |
